Bridging Richmond’s Youth to College and Career Success: Next Up RVA

July 31, 2025

At KR Scholars, we believe that intentional investment in youth creates a ripple effect of opportunity, growth, and generational impact. That belief powered the launch of our HBCU Bridge Summer Edition—a bold, 8-week summer program designed to prepare Richmond’s youth for success in college and beyond.

Through a transformative partnership with NextUp RVA and the City of Richmond, we welcomed high school and college-aged students from underrepresented communities into a supportive, culturally affirming space where education meets aspiration.

The program included:

HBCU campus visits and exposure to higher education pathways
Financial literacy and workforce readiness workshops
Leadership development and real-world career exploration
Networking with professionals and peers
By integrating culturally responsive learning with real-life experience, students walked away not just informed—but empowered. Whether they’re preparing for their first year on a college campus or imagining their place in tomorrow’s workforce, these young leaders now have a stronger sense of what’s possible.

We’re honored that NextUp RVA spotlighted our summer initiative as a model of impactful youth programming—further affirming that when we meet young people with resources and relationships, they rise.

Why This Matters
This program represents more than summer engagement. It’s part of a long-term strategy to expand access, reduce barriers, and build equitable pipelines for Richmond’s next generation of Black professionals and college graduates.

For funders, corporate partners, and champions of community development, The HBCU Bridge Summer Edition offers a clear opportunity to align values with impact—investing in educational equity, workforce readiness, and lasting change.

We’re just getting started—and we invite you to help us build what’s next.
