HBCU College Accessibility for grades 11th - 12th
What is the
HBCU Bridge Program?
Our mission is to enhance college readiness and increase HBCU enrollment for high school students in underserved Richmond communities, fostering academic success and economic mobility.
We believe that every student, regardless of their socioeconomic background, deserves equal opportunities to pursue higher education. For those who find the path is unclear or daunting, we offer comprehensive support to enhance college readiness, facilitate HBCU enrollment, and ensure enrollment, college completion and career success.
Through career exploration initiatives, scholarship coaching, and promoting higher education at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), we equip students with the tools and resources they need to succeed. By fostering a culture of academic ambition and tailored guidance, we empower students to fulfill their potential and pave the way to stronger communities.

Higher earnings
-
Better health
-
More stable marriages
-
Less likely to be unemployed
-
Bachelor’s degree or higher doubled over the last fifty years, from 19% to 40%
HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) are a great fit for first-generation Black college students and students from under-resourced areas for several key reasons:
Low Student-to-Faculty Ratios
HBCUs typically have smaller class sizes, which allows for more personalized attention from professors who are often deeply committed to their students' success.
Mentorship Opportunities
Many HBCU faculty and staff are first-generation college graduates themselves, offering relatable mentorship and guidance to students facing similar challenges.
Lower Tuition Costs
HBCUs often have lower tuition rates compared to other institutions, making them more accessible to students from under-resourced areas.
Proven Track Record
HBCUs have higher graduation rates for Black students compared to many non-HBCU institutions, demonstrating their effectiveness in supporting students from diverse backgrounds.
Legacy of Success
HBCU graduates have a long history of success in various fields, providing role models and a sense of pride for current students.
Powerful Alumni Connections
HBCU alumni are often deeply involved in their institutions, offering a network of support that extends beyond graduation, including mentorship, job opportunities, and professional connections.
