Conway, SC's Newest HBCU Scholarship: KR Scholars Expands Its Impact

May 27, 2025

In a heartfelt tribute to Ms. Ora Lee Dunlap—grandmother of KR Scholars co-founder Kristen Johnson—we are proud to announce the inaugural Ms. Ora Lee Dunlap Scholarship in Conway, South Carolina.

On May 22, 2025, at Conway High School’s awards ceremony, we presented the first $1,000 scholarship to Dazya Singleton, an outstanding senior with a 3.3 GPA and a demonstrated passion for community service. Dazya will pursue a degree in Criminal Justice at South Carolina State University, where she aims to advocate for victims of crime and use education as a tool for social change.

Beyond financial support, KR Scholars welcomes Dazya into the Winners Circle, where she will receive ongoing financial literacy and workforce readiness resources.

This scholarship represents the first of several planned awards in Conway, with future initiatives to include expanded scholarship funds and community workshops on college preparation and financial literacy. We invite local businesses, community leaders, and friends to join us in supporting this scholarship fund. Together, we can empower HBCU-bound students to pursue their dreams.
