KR Scholars Hosts Mayor’s Youth Engagement Services to Provide Richmond Youth with Work Opportunities

July 2, 2025
This summer, KR Scholars will welcome a cohort of 13 paid marketing interns who will be charged with launching and growing our brand-new @HBCUBridge Instagram presence. They will begin by defining the account’s voice, visual style, and content pillars—researching audiences, mapping a content calendar, and drafting captions that highlight our program’s mission of bridging skills to careers. As the weeks progress, they will schedule and publish posts and Stories that shine a light on upcoming workshops, scholar spotlights, and behind-the-scenes moments from campus visits and community events, measuring engagement and iterating on their approach to maximize reach.
Each intern will dive deep into performance analytics, tracking likes, shares, comments, and follower growth to understand what resonates. When a Reel or carousel outperforms expectations, they will analyze the data to identify key drivers of success, then apply those insights to refine hashtags, timing, and multimedia formats in subsequent campaigns—mirroring the data-driven workflows of professional marketing teams.
On a weekly basis, the interns will attend Kreative Academy, a hands-on workshop series led by industry veterans. There, they will progress from mastering graphic design fundamentals—layout, typography, and color theory in tools like Canva—to producing dynamic video content with motion graphics, transitions, and sound design in CapCut or Premiere Rush. By translating newly acquired theory into engaging social-media assets, they will elevate The HBCU Bridge’s online storytelling to a level that competes with seasoned creative teams.
In parallel, each intern will work toward the Grow with Google Digital Marketing Certification, completing self-paced modules on search engine optimization, email marketing strategies, and campaign optimization best practices. Through labs and scenario-based assessments, they will earn industry-recognized credentials that validate their hands-on experience and signal to future employers that they possess both the practical knowledge and the formal qualifications demanded in today’s job market.
By the program’s conclusion, these 13 interns will have built and launched a thriving Instagram community for The HBCU Bridge, developed a robust portfolio of graphics, videos, and analytics reports, and earned their Google certification in digital marketing—fully prepared to step confidently into professional marketing roles.
