Meet the Heart of The HBCU Bridge: Our Incredible Program Coaches

July 21, 2025

The success of The HBCU Bridge Program isn’t just about the workshops, field trips, or college readiness tools—it’s about the people. At the center of our programming is a powerful team of coaches who bring passion, lived experience, and deep commitment to every session.

From mentorship to motivation, these leaders don’t just show up—they show out for our students.

🌟 Aaron Anderson, a proud Virginia Union University (VUU) graduate and RPS Future Center Navigator, brings a deep understanding of the college application process and the Richmond community. His approachable nature and consistent encouragement make him a trusted voice and mentor for our students.

🌟 Dr. Brittney Black-Davis, a Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) alumna and current college professor, offers students the academic tools and life lessons they need to succeed beyond the classroom. As both an HBCU graduate and educator, she brings culturally relevant insight that bridges the gap between high school and higher education.

🌟 Rufus and Kristen Johnson, founders of KR Scholars and visionaries behind The HBCU Bridge Program, have created a nurturing space where students can explore, learn, and grow. As HBCU graduates themselves, their leadership ensures that students are surrounded by strong representation and guided by role models who understand their journeys firsthand.

Together, these coaches do more than teach—they relate. They understand the challenges, culture, and aspirations of the students they serve, making the program not just effective but deeply personal. Through culturally relevant programming and intentional representation, they help students see themselves not only in college—but thriving beyond it.

This isn’t just preparation. It’s transformation.
