Outstanding Norfolk State Freshman Receives KR Scholars Scholarship

January 24, 2026

KR Scholars is proud to celebrate Shya, an outstanding freshman at Norfolk State University, as a recipient of a KR Scholars Scholarship.
Shya’s journey with KR Scholars began through our HBCU Bridge Summer Program, where she explored college and career pathways, built professional skills, and gained exposure to opportunities designed to support long-term success. As part of her workforce readiness experience, Shya completed a Grow with Google Digital Marketing certification, equipping her with in-demand, industry-recognized skills that will support her throughout college and into her career.
In addition to her professional development achievements, Shya utilized the Common Black College Application (CBCA) waiver, removing a financial barrier in the college application process and helping her take the next step toward higher education with confidence. She officially began her freshman year at Norfolk State University this fall—marking an important milestone in her academic journey.
Through The HBCU Bridge, KR Scholars supports students from exploration to enrollment—and beyond. To date, KR Scholars has provided over $100,000 in scholarship funding, helping students access higher education, persist through college, and pursue their long-term goals.
Shya’s success reflects the impact of intentional programming, access to resources, and sustained support. We are honored to invest in her future and look forward to seeing all she will accomplish at Norfolk State University and beyond.
