Upskilling HBCU Students for Future Careers through Google Certifications

June 27, 2025
At KR Scholars, we know that industry-recognized certifications are more than just résumé builders—they’re powerful validations of technical expertise, tangible proof that our students can tackle real-world challenges from day one. That’s why we’re proud to highlight Quentin’s remarkable upskilling journey. Over the past few months, Quentin earned three Grow with Google certifications—Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, and IT Support—each of which reflects a critical pillar of today’s digital workplace.
By completing the Cybersecurity program, Quentin mastered essential principles like threat detection, secure network configuration, and incident response. His Data Analytics credential demonstrates his ability to transform raw data into actionable insights using tools like Google Sheets and BigQuery. And his IT Support certification confirms he can diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues—skills that keep any organization running smoothly.
These certifications laid the groundwork for Quentin’s current internship with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, where he’s already applying his new skills to support network security and data-driven project planning. From analyzing traffic-pattern datasets to assisting with endpoint configuration, Quentin is proving that certified knowledge accelerates impact.
We believe certifications empower HBCU students to:
Close the skills gap by aligning academic learning with employer expectations
Stand out in competitive hiring pools with verifiable credentials
Build confidence through hands-on labs and scenario-based assessments
Accelerate career growth by showcasing continuous learning
Quentin’s success underscores our commitment to upskilling the next generation of HBCU leaders. Ready to follow in his footsteps? Applications for our fall Grow with Google cohort open July 15—apply today and transform your passion into profession!
